They are apparently leaving the capital in droves. They have had enough of the bright city lights and are looking for new pastures to call home. In fact, a recent study reported that numbers of Londoners leaving the city is at a record high – 336,000 people left in the year up to June 2017.
So where are all these people going?
Yes, there are the usual Northern suspects – Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds – but the suburbs of Kent are attracting a lot of attention too. Dartford, Medway and Canterbury all made the top 20 destinations for those escaping London.
What is making the towns and cities of Kent so attractive? Why are more and more people looking to settle in the “Garden of England”?

Locations such as Ashford are popular as it is only 38 minutes from London and is near the M20, and Dartford, with its fast links into central London is seeing its population boom. For those wanting to break out of London but still remain in touch with the capital, Kent is proving very popular.
With Londoners being driven out by high property prices and living costs, a recent poll showed up to a fifth of those surveyed would be prepared to move up to 25 miles outside the capital to find their ideal family life – and home.
If you are looking for somewhere to grow your family, you cannot go wrong with Kent. In another recent report, Tunbridge Wells secured second spot when it came to the top 10 “family zones” in the capital and commuter belt areas.
Combining commuting times, educational standards (Kent has a great grammar school system), crime rates, quantity of green space, road safety, job prospects, and average salaries, it is no wonder that Kent’s towns and cities are being heralded as the perfect family locations.
There is always something going on in Kent. Whichever town or city you find yourself in, every week provides another opportunity to get involved with the local community. We’ve seen parades, concerts, county shows, regattas, markets, festivals, and more.
